Since the beginning of the Three Year One Thousand Day Period, leading up to the 140th Anniversary of Oyasama, to be held in January of 2026, we have engaged ourselves in a number of different activities held at the church. I would like to introduce two of them here.
Flower Arrangement Class
instructor: Satsuki Sturgis
The Flower Arrangement Class began as a simple gathering of women, to help provide a space and time to relax and enjoy the beauty of flowers. Thanks to instructor Sturgis, the class has become a monthly engagement in producing beautiful decorations or center-pieces that the members ultimately bring home to their respective households. With each class, the regular members have slowly grown comfortable in this space and at times enjoy each other's company over tea and cake after the workshop.

Japanese Language Lesson
instructor: Isamu Ryono
Starting in October of 2023, thanks to the assistance of the Tenri Cultural Institute (Director: Michael Yuge), we began offering Japanese language lessons for beginner adults. Using the instructor materials produced by Tenri School of Japanese Language staff, the students are able to immerse themselves in the Japanese language using The Japanese for Busy People textbook, while at times enjoying the taste of green tea after class or a Japanese calligraphy hands on experience. We also held a Rice Cake (Mochi) Pounding Festival at the end of the year and students were able to join in the festivities!
